About Elizabeth Ryan
Elizabeth Ryan is an award-winning journalist, radio reporter and mulitmedia producer living in Washington, D.C.
Her favorite stories are those that occur at the intersection of public policy and personal experience, such as her series about families living in extended stay motels, which won the 2008 Cushing Niles Dolbeare Award from the National Low Income Housing Coaltion. In addition to writing about housing, Elizabeth also enjoys tackling subjects such as demographic trends, suburban decline, urban issues, food, rural life, immigration and the impact of economic and climate change on business and communities.
Since turning her sights to journalism in 2005, her work has appeared in numerous publications and websites, including washingtonpost.com, USAToday.com, the Houston Chronicle, the Chicago Tribune, the Chattanooga Times Free Press, the Biloxi Sun Herald, The Times of Northwest Indiana, The Chicago Defender, beepcentral.com, The Citizen, The Chicago Journal and the Greenpoint Star.
She currently lives in Washington, D.C. where she spends her free time cooking, playing bluegrass fiddle, practicing yoga, riding her bike and talking with anyone about anything at any time.
